Hannaford Supermarkets announced that an Augusta, ME store that made history for its sustainable construction will pursue a new standard that puts ecology at the core of its daily work. The Hannaford Cony Street store is pursuing the Living Building Challenge Core green building certification, a regimen of sustainability standards developed by the International Living Future Institute.
The store’s remodel made use of locally-sourced, sustainable materials a priority with 50 % of wood incorporated into the design salvaged or certified by the Forest Stewardship Council and 80% of renovation waste diverted from landfills and recycled.
